Important Falcons Betting Stats
From his time as Buccaneers head coach, Raheem Morris is 26-32-1 against the spread as a head coach in the NFL.
Under center, Kirk Cousins is 73-74-2 and Taylor Heinicke is 14-15-1.
It’ll be tough to find an NFL offense that will look more different from the end of last season than the Falcons.
After starting Desmond Ridder and Heinicke at QB for all of last season, Cousins is in town (with Michael Penix Jr.!). Combine Cousins with a new coaching staff, and there are some high expectations for the Falcons this season.
Raheem Morris took over as head coach after Arthur Smith and his run-heavy offense were fired. Morris brought Zac Robinson with him from the Rams, so you can expect an offense that resembles Sean McVay’s to be featured this season in Atlanta.
The Falcons suffered a big blow when wide receiver Rondale Moore was ruled out for the season after suffering an injury in training camp, but Cousins still has weapons around him in the offense.
Wide receiver Drake London is expected to take a big step forward in his third season, while Darnell Mooney was also added in free agency. Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier will lead the backfield, while tight end Kyle Pitts is another potential breakout candidate with an above-average QB finally throwing him the ball.
Cousins is coming off a torn Achilles, which brings his prospects entering this season into question, but Penix adds a layer of reliability to the Falcons’ outlook. While Penix might not play for a few years, his arm talent is impressive and he could fill in well for Cousins if something happens to the veteran.
How To Back the Falcons This Season
From a betting perspective, it’s tough to find a futures market that isn’t very high on the Falcons. Atlanta is -130 at FanDuel to win the NFC South, and the over on its 9.5 win total is -142.
If you believe in the Falcons but think those odds aren’t great, investing in their skill players in fantasy football might be the way to go. London and Robinson are young and poised to potentially break out, while Mooney could be a sneaky play if Atlanta’s offense is really humming.
According to Action Network's Sean Koerner, the Falcons will face the easiest schedule in the NFL this season.
All four teams in the NFC South have at least one of the six easiest schedules in football because, well, they get to play each other twice.
The Falcons start the season against the Steelers, Eagles and Chiefs. After that, the only team outside of the Buccaneers on their schedule that made the playoffs last season is the Cowboys.
Atlanta is a 2.5-point favorite at home against the Steelers in Week 1. The game total is 42.5, which is tied for the third lowest of the week.
