Important Lions Betting Stats
Jared Goff is a prolific QB against the spread (ATS). His career ATS record is 71-52-2.
Dan Campbell's ATS record is equally as impressive at 41-25.
The Lions entered last season as the hunted for the first time in a long time and handled the pressure very well. Detroit won the NFC North and was agonizingly close to a win in the NFC Championship Game.
Now, the pressure is on to do it again.
The biggest improvements for the Lions have to be made on the defensive side of the football. Detroit’s secondary was a specific weakness that needed to be addressed in the offseason, and it was.
The Lions added veteran cornerback Carlton Davis from the Buccaneers and drafted Terrion Arnold (Alabama) in the first round of the draft. Aiden Hutchinson and Marcus Davenport will have to step up in pass rush, though, if the new-look secondary can truly improve year over year.
On offense, the Lions are a known commodity. Jared Goff is stable under center, while Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta will be his go-to targets. Detroit also has some upside in players like Jameson Williams at wide receiver behind St. Brown.
There’s also a lot of hype surrounding Jahmyr Gibbs entering his second season in the Lions backfield alongside veteran touchdown machine David Montgomery.
How To Back the Lions This Season
Despite being among the top teams on the Super Bowl odds board, the Lions are still plus money to win their division (+130 at FanDuel). The Packers could breakthrough, and Caleb Williams means the Bears are no easy out.
If you believe in the Lions, though, that's probably the way to go.
The Lions will face the fourth-easiest schedule in the NFL this season. Four of the six easiest schedules this season belong to the NFC South.
The Lions open the season with playoff rematches against the Rams and Buccaneers at home. The rest of the way, Detroit will play the following playoff teams from last season: the Cowboys, Packers (twice), Texans, Bills and 49ers.
The Lions will open the season on Sunday Night Football with a playoff rematch against the Rams. Detroit opened as a 3.5-point favorite for that Wild Card Round matchup but closed at -3.
This time, the spread is 3.5 points again. The game total is a Week 1-high 51.5 points.
