Important Buccaneers Betting Stats
Baker Mayfield is a subpar 41-48-1 against the spread in his career, while reserve QB John Wolford is 4-1 from a handful of starts with the Rams.
Todd Bowles is 46-53-5 agains the spread as a head coach.
Buccaneers Need To Show Progress
The Buccaneers will look to go back-to-back as NFC South champions, but there is reason to believe they might not be so lucky this season.
Last season, according to Action Network’s Luck Rankings, the Buccaneers were the third-luckiest team in the NFL, trailing only the Steelers and Eagles.
The biggest thing the Buccaneers had going for them last season was injury luck. Only one key offensive starter (guard Aaron Stinnie) missed time last season, and Stinnie was recovering from an injury suffered the previous season. Otherwise, the Bucs had their core together all season.
Something else that may not go Tampa Bay’s way this season is the offense. Former offensive coordinator Dave Canales is now the Panthers head coach. Canales was the Seahawks’ QBs coach in 2022 when Geno Smith experienced a career rejuvenation, and he led the offense that saw Baker Mayfield thrive last season.
Former Rams offensive coordinator Liam Coen takes over for Canales and will call plays for the first time in the NFL.
Overall, it’s more likely that the Buccaneers regress instead of take a step forward to become one of the NFC’s true contenders.
How To Back the Buccaneers This Season
Action Network’s Nick Giffen has already identified his favorite win total under this season, and it’s the Buccaneers.
If you don’t think last season was a fluke for the Bucs, you can grab them to repeat as AFC South champions at +300 or better at most sportsbooks.
According to Action Network's Sean Koerner, the Buccaneers will face the second-easiest schedule in the NFL this season. All four teams in the NFC South are among the six easiest slates in the league, which makes sense given the quality of each team.
The Buccaneers are 3.5-point home favorites against the Commanders in Week 1. The total is 41.5, which is the second lowest of the Week 1 slate.
