Aaron Rodgers is expected to be medically cleared to play by the New York Jets this week, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Jets have shuffled through backup quarterbacks all season since Rodgers first went down with a torn his Achilles against the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 11.
Rodgers was designated to return from Injured Reserve and cleared for football activity in late November and needed to get through a 21-day practice window before he could be eligible to return. The 40-year old former MVP was seen at Jets practice this week dropping back and making throws and participating in 7-on-7 drills.
The deadline for the Jets to elevate Rodgers to the active roster is Wednesday, but that doesn't mean he will play. Whether Rodgers actually suits up again this season is contingent upon his health and the Jets' place in the standings.
The Jets are 9.5-point underdogs on the road in Miami this week, face the Washington Commanders at home in Week 16 the finish the season with back-to-back road games against the Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots.
Sportsbooks didn't have the Jets' odds to make the playoffs listed, but Action Network's Predictive Analytics team had the Jets' NFL playoff chances at 1% entering Week 15.
