Sunday Night Football for Week 2 of the NFL season has arrived and I have four primetime plays – two each for the Bears and Packers – to consider. These players aren’t the flashiest of names and are more bargain-bin plays who could surprise.
RB Khalil Herbert, Bears
Herbert ran better than David Montgomery last week. He picked up 45 yards on nine carries while Montgomery netted just 26 yards despite getting 17 carries.
Herbert was much better after contact as well, averaging 2.22 yards compared to Montgomery’s 1.41, per PFF. That could all lead to a bigger role for Herbert, who also got both of Chicago's carries inside the five-yard line last week, converting one for a TD.
TE Cole Kmet, Bears
Kmet goose-egged in the Week 1 monsoon against the 49ers, but he ran a route on 70% of Justin Fields’ dropbacks. If Jaire Alexander is on Darnell Mooney, Kmet has a good shot at leading the Bears in targets.
WR Randall Cobb, Packers
Bears slot corner Kyler Gordon gave up five catches on five targets for 70 yards last week. He was targeted nearly as much as boundary corners Jaylon Johnson (2) and Kindle Vildor (4) combined. Cobb was second on the team in air yards last week and he could benefit if Aaron Rodgers picks on Gordon in coverage.
TE Marcedes Lewis, Packers
Lewis led all Packers TEs in snaps in Week 1. Although he will likely be surpassed by a healthier Robert Tonyan this week, Lewis is their top run-blocking TE, which sets him up to potentially be the recipient of a play-action TD at the goal line. He’s a solid dart throw in a large-field GPP (Guaranteed Prize Pool).
