McCaffrey had been as long as -278 to score a touchdown tonight. Late in the second quarter, McCaffrey got in for his 21st touchdown of the season, just two behind the 49ers single-season record of 23 set by Jerry Rice in 1987.
The running back from Stanford has scored in every game this season except for one — against the Jaguars in November. That game snapped a 17-game touchdown streak by perhaps the best skill position player in the league, which tied an NFL record. The end of that game saw Kyle Shanahan dial up four straight plays from inside the Jaguars' 10-yard line for McCaffrey to score in order to attain an NFL record 18 games straight with a TD, but to no avail.
Up until that point, you would have won over $5,000 as a $500 per game bettor on McCaffrey to score a touchdown every game that streak, often at incredibly short odds.
It stands to reason that McCaffrey is the favorite to win Offensive Player of the Year in what has turned out to be a competitive race, despite the running back's exploits. That's thanks to competition from Tyreek Hill, who had been on pace to beat Calvin Johnson's single-season receiving record until a few weeks ago. An injury against the Titans impeded that progress and forced Hill to miss his following game against the Jets.
