The Los Angeles Chargers were favored over any other option to land the legendary coach prior to Thursday's news, with retirement now the betting favorite after the announcement. He’s +200 to take over a Bolts team that fired Brandon Staley after an embarrassing 63-21 Week 15 loss to the Raiders, with not coaching an NFL team next season the favorite at +175.
Even though DraftKings lists the Chargers as favorites, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported over the weekend that Los Angeles is an unlikely destination when discussing possible landing spots.
"The Commanders are not likely to pursue Belichick if they move on from head coach Ron Rivera, and the Chargers and Raiders are considered less likely options," Rapoport said. "The Panthers, however, had some interest during their head-coaching search when they eventually hired Frank Reich, sources say, and they might inquire again. There is also the possibility that a team with a head-coaching position not yet open could have interest in Belichick."
