Update: The Broncos have a 10% chance to make the NFL playoffs entering Week 17. Denver decided to sit quarterback Russell for the final two weeks of the season, signaling that they aren't looking to push for the postseason.
Update: The Broncos saw their postseason odds tank after a blowout loss Saturday night. The Broncos have an estimated 18% chance to make the NFL playoffs, according to Action Network's Predictive Analytics team. They're still tied for the easiest remaining strength of schedule in the league but it will be an uphill climb.
Not many saw Denver competing for a playoff spot after a horrific start to the Sean Payton era. The Broncos lost their first three games and five of their first six, including an embarrassing 70-20 loss to the Dolphins. However, they won six of their past seven including pivotal games against fellow playoff contenders, and sportsbooks have them as one of the more likely teams to secure a playoff berth for a plethora of reasons.
Denver has the sixth-easiest remaining schedule in the NFL. In fact, they have just one game remaining against a team with a winning record. After visiting the 9-4 Lions, they’ll host the 3-10 Patriots and 5-9 Chargers before ending the season in Las Vegas against the 6-8 Raiders.
Meanwhile, the Broncos own the tie-breaker over the Bills and Browns, although a last-second 22-17 loss to the Texans in Week 13 could potentially comeback to bite them. They’re only 4-5 against the AFC, but if they win their three games against the lowly Patriots, Chargers and Raiders, would own a 7-5 record. Action Network's Predictive Analytics team projects the Broncos' chance to make the playoffs at 38% entering Saturday.
