The latest Panthers vs. Titans odds for NFL Week 12 have Tennessee installed as 3.5-point favorites on the spread with a game total of 36.5. My NFL pick for this matchup is targeting that low, ugly over/under.

This is a matchup of two teams in total disarray. The two rookie quarterbacks, Bryce Young and Will Levis, are among the worst in the league at the moment and their teams are no different. This game could simply come down to which team shows up or which quarterback makes fewer mistakes.

Let's get to my betting preview for NFL Week 12 and Panthers vs. Titans prediction.

Matchup Analysis

The Panthers rank 31st in overall DVOA, ahead of only the Giants. Not great. They're dismal on offense (31st in offensive DVOA) and not much better defensively (28th in defensive DVOA). The worst part is they don’t even own their first-round draft pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, so there's no benefit to being this bad.

Bryce Young's performance has to be very concerning for Panthers fans, especially with C.J. Stroud already emerging as a star who's even gotten some MVP hype. Granted, the team around Young isn't great, so you can’t rule out his future prospects just yet.

Amongst qualified quarterbacks, only Zach Wilson, Mac Jones and Kenny Pickett have a worse EPA+CPOE composite than Young. Wilson has been benched, Jones is expected to be benched this weekend, and if Pickett survives the year without being benched I would be pretty surprised.

There are other areas — such as success rate — in which Young is better than only Wilson, who is one of the worst starting QBs in the history of this league.

All of that being said, things are not going much better for the Titans offense at the moment. After a breakout first start, Will Levis has regressed in every game he's started.

Levis played decently against the Steelers in his second start, but couldn’t find a way to win the game. He has struggled over the past two weeks against the Falcons and Bucs, which resulted in two bad losses.

The Titans defense that has been so strong over the past few years has also dropped down to 20th in defensive DVOA. However, their run/pass splits are some of the widest margins in the league. They are 28th in pass defense DVOA and fourth in rush defense DVOA.

Fortunately for them, the Panthers are one of the few teams that can’t take advantage of a bad Titans secondary.

This is a perfect matchup for the Titans offense. They are still a solid rushing team with Derrick Henry. Meanwhile, the Panthers have been reliable in the secondary and should be getting back Jeremy Chinn and Jaycee Horn, which will bolster their secondary. However, they are an NFL-worst 32nd in rush defense DVOA.

With these matchups, the Titans should be able take the pressure off Levis and just run the ball 40 times with Henry and Tyjae Spears. That will create long, methodical drives and drain the clock.

The Titans defense should be able to drop back and focus on their secondary against a Panthers offense that can’t do much.

Additionally, there are two solid punters in this game. The Panthers have veteran Johnny Hekker, who has been one of the best in the game for years, and the Titans have Ryan Stonehouse, who leads the NFL in average punt distance.

Betting Picks & Predictions

I expect this game to be ugly. The Panthers defense will be bolstered by the returns of Chinn and Horn. The Titans defense should also relish the opportunity to face a putrid Panthers offense.

Both teams should be conservative with their play-calling and the punters will set up long fields for their opponents.
