This article contains predictions for an old game.

The Carolina Panthers (1-5) and Washington Commanders (4-2) will kick off NFL Week 7's Sunday late afternoon slate. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET from Northwest Stadium in Landover, Md., on CBS. The game can be streamed live on Paramount+, YouTube TV and other streaming platforms.

The Commanders are consensus 10-point favorites over the Panthers on the spread (Commanders -10), while the over/under is set at 51.5 points. Commanders -10 is the biggest spread of the weekend. Washington is -550 on the moneyline to win outright, while Carolina is +400 to pull off the upset.

Carolina lost its third straight game last week 38-20 to the Falcons. The Panthers have given up at least 34 points in all three of those defeats. The Commanders lost 30-23 to the Ravens last week. Jayden Daniels threw for 269 yards and 2 touchdowns last week in what was his toughest test yet.

Let's get into my Panthers vs. Commanders predictions and my NFL picks for Sunday Week 7.

  • Panthers vs. Commanders spread: Commanders -10
  • Panthers vs. Commanders over/under: 51.5 points
  • Panthers vs. Commanders moneyline: Commanders -500, Panthers +400
  • Panthers vs. Commanders best bet: Commanders 1H Over 15.5

Spread

The trends indicate this is a place to bet the Panthers. The Commanders are due for regression, and Carolina is due for a cover. I simply can't get there, though, so I'm passing on betting either side.

Moneyline

I'm also not betting either team's moneyline.

Over/Under

The Panthers defense is awful, but it's especially awful in the first half. I faded this unit last week by betting the Falcons' first-half team total over, so I'm going back to the well and betting on the Commanders in the same way.

My pick: Commanders 1H Over 15.5

Panthers vs. Commanders Betting Trends to Know

  • 82% of bets and 81% of the money are on the Commanders to cover the spread.
  • 69% of bets and 74% of the money are on the over.
  • 99% of bets and 99% of the money on the moneyline are on the Commanders.

Panthers vs. Commanders NFL Week 7 Preview

This bet worked last week against the Panthers with the Falcons. Atlanta dropped 22 points against Carolina in the first half, so I’m going back to the well with the Commanders.

The Panthers were up 21-7 in Week 3 when Andy Dalton took over and they won in Las Vegas. Outside of that game, Carolina has allowed at least three touchdowns in the first half of every game this season. The average halftime score of Panthers games is 24-9 in favor of the opposition.

Carolina is allowing 33.8 points per game this season and the defense is worse in this game than it was in others. Linebacker Shaq Thompson and defensive tackle Derrick Brown are out for the season.

The Commanders offense is due for some regression, but running back Brian Robinson is set to return. That will help Washington establish the ground game, more so than it could have with Austin Ekeler leading the backfield.

Defensively, Washington still isn’t good. That’s good news for this bet since the Commanders are more likely to get their offense the ball back.

I’m staying away from the spread because there are a lot of agnostic team trends that say you should back the Panthers. Washington has been red hot and is in first place in the NFC East, so it’d also make sense to fade it.

I initially thought about over 1.5 first-half touchdowns as the bet, but that’s -182. Sportsbooks are conceding that Washington is going to score two first-half touchdowns. We just need the extra points to be made and another score.

This game has the highest total of the week, so there’s no reason to think Washington won’t score enough. I got 15.5 first-half points during the week, but I’d play 16.5, as well.

Pick: Commanders 1H Over 15.5
