A week of surprising NFL quarterback moves continued on Wednesday following reports that the Washington Commanders have agreed to acquire quarterback Carson Wentz from the Indianapolis Colts.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Washington will send a pair of third-round drafts picks to Indianapolis while also taking on Wentz's full contract.
While Wentz, who threw for more than 3,500 yards and 27 touchdowns with just seven interceptions, finished with the ninth-best QBR (54.7) last season, but a disastrous performance in a season-ending loss to Jacksonville kept Indianapolis out of the playoffs, likely sealing his fate in Indy.
Interestingly, the news has been met with plenty of sarcasm across social media, but the bottom line is that the addition of Wentz has improved the Commanders' chance to win the 2023 Super Bowl according to oddsmakers.
Updated Washington Super Bowl Odds
Prior to the news, Washington sat at 50-1 at DraftKings Sportsbook to win Super Bowl 57. That number has dropped to 40-1 at DraftKings with the expectation that Wentz will be under center for the Commanders.
That puts Washington in a tie with the New Orleans Saints for the 18th-best odds to win Super Bowl 57 at DraftKings.
On the other hand, the Colts' Super Bowl odds of 30-1 suggest that another move is forthcoming and there's already plenty of speculation that current San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo could be Indy's next quarterback target.
