The first game of the 2023 NFL season is in the books — and we already have our first upset.
Even without Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs were still favored over the Detroit Lions by anywhere from 3.5 to 4 points prior to kickoff of Thursday Night Football. The Chiefs were also -210 on the moneyline to win outright, with the Lions +175 to pull off the upset.
With a 21-20 win, the Lions both covered all of the potential spreads out there and won as +175 outright underdogs on the moneyline. A $10 bet on Detroit at the closing moneyline of +175 would have won you $27.50 total ($17.50 in winnings, plus your $10 bet back).
The Chiefs had opened as 6.5-point favorites on the spread and -300 on the moneyline, with the Lions opening at +235 to win.
The total over/under for the game closed at 52.5 across the market, with the under easily cashing, given that only 41 total points were scored in the game.

On the player prop front, the first TD of the season went to Detroit's Amon-Ra St. Brown, who was nearly 9-to-1 to snag the first score of the year.
