Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice exited Sunday’s contest against the Chargers after suffering a knee injury in the first quarter.

Rice was carted away after sustaining the injury and was eventually ruled out for the remainder of the contest. The second-year wideout was undercut by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who was pursuing a defender after throwing an interception.

Entering Week 4, Rice was the only Chiefs player with more than 20 receptions, boasting a team-high 24 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns. Rice — who also led Kansas City with 29 targets this season — has emerged as Mahomes’ top receiving option this year.

Rice came into Sunday tied for the fourth-best odds (+700) of leading the NFL in receiving yards.

Without Rice, the Chiefs’ receiving corps is helmed by veteran tight end Travis Kelce and rookie receiver Xavier Worthy. Kelce entered the week with eight catches for 69 yards through three games — a career-worst stretch to open the season.
