Christian McCaffrey exited Sunday’s loss against the Browns with an oblique injury that could significantly impact the futures market.
San Francisco entered the day as the Super Bowl favorites, according to BetMGM (+375). Meanwhile, McCaffrey was a frontrunner for Offensive Player of the Year and the only non-quarterback listed among the top-10 MVP favorites (+1100).
McCaffrey began Sunday leading the league in touches (119), yards from scrimmage (679), rushing yards (510) and total touchdowns (8). He was off to another big day against the Browns, carrying the ball 11 times for 43 yards along with three catches for nine yards and a touchdown. It was the 12th straight regular season game in which he scored a touchdown, and the 15th including the postseason. He found pay dirt 18 times during the streak.
According to Action Network Director Predictive Analytics, Sean Koerner, any significant time missed by McCaffrey could be massive for fantasy too.
Koerner's Analysis
McCaffrey is the most valuable player in fantasy, so any lengthy absence will be massive. Eli Mitchell should be added wherever available — he should already be rostered — and would be a solid RB2. Jordan Mason should also be added in deeper leagues, especially if CMC were to miss two-plus games. He could push RB3/Flex value with heavy bye weeks coming up and RB2 upside if Mitchell were to also miss time.
