The Cowboys49ers rivalry will be renewed on Sunday in the NFC Divisional Round.

Dallas took care of business on Monday, shellacking Tom Brady and the Buccaneers by the score of 31-14. Dak Prescott showed out, racking up five total touchdowns (four passing, one rushing) and quelling concerns over his ability to take care of the ball. Perhaps most importantly, the defense was back in top form.

As for the 49ers, they blew out division-rival Seattle on Saturday, turning it on in the second half in an 18-point triumph.

Dallas and San Francisco met in the Wild Card Round of last year’s playoffs, which resulted in a 23-17 win for the 49ers.

There are three teams that rank in the top six in all of Football Outsiders’ Total DVOA, Weighted DVOA, Offense DVOA and Defense DVOA. The only one of those teams in the NFC is the 49ers.

San Francisco ranks first in Weighted DVOA, which weighs recent performances more heavily. The Niners started the season 3-4, but went on to win 10 straight games. Brock Purdy was the starting quarterback for six of those matchups after taking over for the injured Jimmy Garoppolo.

Purdy, the 2022 NFL Draft's Mr. Irrelevant, has a lot of eyes on him, but the rookie's been unfazed since becoming the starter. In his playoff debut, he went 18-of-30 for 332 yards and four touchdowns (three passing, one rushing) — it doesn’t get much better than that.

The 49ers have playmakers all over the field, including a plethora of them on offense. Christian McCaffrey averaged 7.9 yards per carry on his 15 totes against the Seahawks, while Deebo Samuel gained a combined 165 yards rushing and receiving.

Oh, and San Francisco has the best defense in football. Nick Bosa and Charles Omenihu lead a strong pass rush, with Fred Warner manning the middle of the field and Talanoa Hufanga on the back end.

The Cowboys endured a roller-coaster season, which was held together early on by Cooper Rush’s play in place of Dak Prescott and their stellar defense.

Micah Parsons became a bona fide star, playing all over the front seven and wreaking havoc on opposing offenses. Dallas was a top-five unit, according to DVOA, across the board during the regular season.

Offensively, the Cowboys weren’t the explosive powerhouse that many fans expected them to be. They ranked as an above-average unit throughout the season, even when Prescott was active.

The focal point throughout the season on offense was the run game, which featured a reliable Ezekiel Elliott and the explosive Tony Pollard. CeeDee Lamb took a step forward toward being a star No. 1 receiver, although Michael Gallup’s production never got going after making his debut during the season.
