UPDATE: David Montgomery returned to the game midway through the second quarter.
The 4-1 Detroit Lions showdown against the 5-0 Minnesota Vikings is an NFC North clash in what’s arguably the league’s best division. Unfortunately, the Lions suffered an injury to one of their top players for the second-straight week as David Montgomery had to be helped off the field midway through the first-quarter.
Montgomery injured his knee getting stuffed on a 3rd-and-1 with Detroit trailing 10-0. He had two carries for three yards with a pair of catches for 25 yards before leaving the game.
Montgomery is a key cog in a Lions offense that entered the week ranked first in points (30.2), third in total offense (416.0 ppg) and fourth in rushing )157.8). He’s joined by Jahmyr Gibbs to form arguably the league’s most potent running back duo. Gibbs rose to the occasion right away with Montgomery on the sideline with a 45-yard touchdown run to cut the score to 10-7 .
