Kendrick Bourne

One man who made his presence known in Week 1 was Kendrick Bourne. The former 49ers wideout has been with the Patriots since 2021, but he really stood out in the Pats' narrow defeat to the Eagles.

He turned six receptions into 64 yards and more importantly, two touchdowns. This Patriots wide receiver room lacks a main man — JuJu Smith-Schuster is talented, but he won’t ever be a WR1.

While I don’t think Bourne will be a top guy either, he can continue to have a big piece of the pie. He was a real threat last week and 39.5 receiving yards seems too low.

I'll back the over.

Pick: Kendrick Bourne Over 39.5 Receiving Yards (-110; BetMGM)

At the risk of potentially reading too much into the opening week, I’m back to the Bourne well again.

I was really impressed with him against the Eagles and it’s clear that Mac Jones trusts him. He led the team with 11 targets, hauling in six of them. Whether he gets quite that much again, I’m not sure, but he has Jones’ trust and that is key.

We’ll back him to get four or more receptions this week on Sunday Night Football.

Pick: Kendrick Bourne Over 3.5 Receptions (+112)

Demario Douglas

Anytime TD (+550)

My final play for Sunday night is yet another Patriot. This time it’s Demario Douglas, who we’ll be backing to score a touchdown. Last week, he caught four passes and was targeted seven times — the same as Smith-Schuster.

The Liberty man was a sixth-round pick, but all of training camp, it was his name you heard getting the buzz and not that of Kayshon Boutte, a player who obviously gathered huge buzz at times in recent years.

From reading between the lines of the coach speak this preseason, it was clear that the Patriots love Douglas and I’m expecting him to continue to get chances in a WR room that lacks true star power.

At +550, the odds are simply too big.

Pick: Demario Douglas Anytime TD (+550; BetMGM)
