We could see some pretty heavy rain tonight in Charlotte, along with 10-15 mph winds. It's not like either the Falcons or Panthers need an excuse to lean on the run game, but the forecast will likely force both teams to lean on the run more than usual.
My nickname for D'Onta Foreman is Dollar Store Derrick Henry. That's not an insult, instead a compliment because he has a similar power-running style. I expect the Panthers to lean on Foreman in the sloppy conditions.
Since the Panthers fired Matt Rhule and traded Christian McCaffrey, the Panthers have run the ball at the fifth-highest rate on early downs in neutral situations. Foreman has cleared this number and even topped 100 yards in two of the three games in that span.
Last week was the only time Foreman failed to clear this number in that three-game span. It was mostly because the Panthers were down 35-0 at halftime. I expect both Carolina and Foreman to bounce back tonight.
Just two weeks ago, Foreman ran for 118 rushing yards. Atlanta's defensive line is below average, and it has the lowest stuff rate on first down against opposing running backs.
We should see Foreman make it to the second level quite often tonight, picking up chunk plays of 4-6 yards, with the occasional run of 10 or more yards mixed in.
Chuba Hubbard is expected to return to the lineup, which could eat into Foreman's workload a bit. That's likely to be more on passing downs, which is fine since Foreman doesn't see much work in the passing game.
I'm projecting this total closer to 61.5. With the rain in the forecast, I like Foreman's upside tonight.
