Postgame update: The massive $1.487 million wager heard 'round the gambling universe on Monday night looked dead to rights in the first half.
The Saints — who a mystery DraftKings bettor needed to win outright vs. the Chargers to profit $446,100 — fell behind 20-3 in the second quarter.
New Orleans went on to score 24 of the next 31 points to even the game at 27 with less than a minute to play in regulation. Rookie QB Justin Herbert drove his team to be within field-goal range … only to have a 50-yard field goal hit the post as time expired.
The Saints got the ball first in overtime and wouldn't waste their second (fifth? sixth?) life. Their field goal gave them a 30-27 lead, which would end up being the final score after the Chargers failed to match in their first possession of overtime.
New Orleans fell short of covering the 7-point pregame spread but handed this million-dollar bettor a $446,100 profit after the sweat of a lifetime.
$1.487 million.
That's how much one bettor at DraftKings has riding on the New Orleans Saints' moneyline in their Monday Night Football game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
If the Saints win outright, this bettor would profit $446,100.
The Action Network learned of the seven-figure wager as MNF was kicking off, and while details about the bettor were not immediately available, we have verified the bet through two separate screenshots.
The wager was placed on Monday at 7:40 p.m. ET — 35 minutes prior to kickoff — and was split into two separate tickets: one with a risk amount of $443,494.91 and the other for $1,043,505.09, which totals $1,487,000 exactly.
The Saints closed as 7-point home favorites against the Chargers and rookie QB Justin Herbert. The Chargers were leading, 20-10, at halftime.
This marks at least the fourth seven-figure bet DraftKings has taken in the past three weeks:
- Last Tuesday, a bettor placed the largest parlay ever at DK: a $3 million wager that needs the Green Bay Packers to win the NFC North, the Georgia Bulldogs to win the SEC East and Alabama to win the SEC West. If all three things take place, this bettor would profit
- Two weeks ago, one bettor turned a $2 million parlay bet into $1.1 million in profits at DraftKings when Florida (CFB), Tennessee (CFB) and the Rams (NFL) all won.
- A different wager, risking $1.4 million to profit $532,319 on Over 42 (-263) in Jags-Bengals, also came through at DK in Week 3.
It is not known whether these million-dollar wagers are the product of the same high-roller or unrelated wagers.
Editor's Note: Always tread lightly when betting parlays, as they tend to be -EV bets over a long period of time.
