Sunday update
It's gameday and the ever-popular Gatorade Prop Bet odds are on the move at legal sportsbooks in New Jersey and Indiana. Here's the latest info…
Earlier in the week, FanDuel had Purple as the favorite to win and it was by far the book's biggest liability, getting 52% of the handle. As rumors circulated that both teams would honor the passing of Kobe Bryant with Purple Gatorade, more and more bettors jumped aboard.
That's since changed, though, with Red supplanting Purple as the popular bet and biggest liability. (It's worth nothing that this is the first Super Bowl ever where both teams' primary jersey color is Red.)
PointsBet hasn't been so lucky to even out its Gatorade books, with Purple still the odds-on favorite (-222 odds) and the biggest liability.
DraftKings is in the same boat. It opened Purple at 12-1, was down to +120 on Thursday and is -121 currently. The handle has evened out a bit for DK, though: On Thursday 54% of the handle was on Purple; as of Sunday morning, it was getting 35% of the money.

Thursday update
MIAMI — The betting menu for the Super Bowl gets deeper every year but there is always one constant — the ever-popular Gatorade Prop.
Every year there seems to be an interesting story about this particular prop, including the time when the late Jared Lorenzen tried to help a few of his betting buddies by tipping them off about the color before Super Bowl XLII.
This year, the buzz seems to be about Purple.
Rumors on Twitter began to circulate that the NFL and Gatorade planned on honoring Kobe Bryant by using Purple Gatorade for the now-traditional Gatorade Bath that is dumped on the winning coach at the end of every Super Bowl. These rumors have not been confirmed but they were enough to cause the odds on Purple to shorten significantly, now making it the prohibitive favorite.
On Tuesday, DraftKings was offering Purple at 12-1, the sixth-longest odds of the seven options, with "None" being the only choice with a bigger price. By Thursday, Purple was down to +120 at DraftKings, which reported that 54% of the money was on Purple.
PointsBet saw a similarly drastic turn in the market. According to their data, 59% of the money for this prop was on the color of kings.
“We opened Purple at 10-1 on Tuesday, representing our longest odds of all colors offered,” said PointsBet spokesman Patrick Eichner. “Since opening, we’ve received a ton of steam on Purple, in part thanks to rumors across Twitter."
Purple was bet down to -143 at PointsBet on Thursday afternoon.
FanDuel also has Purple listed as the favorite and it is easily the most popular choice at their books, attracting 52% of the handle, according to spokesman Kevin Hennessy.
Red (+300) is the second-most popular choice at FanDuel at 19% of the dollar share. It is the first all-red Super Bowl but no coach has been doused with Red Gatorade in the past 20 years. Purple, on the other hand, was used twice — in Super Bowl XXXVIII (2003 on Jon Gruden) and XLVI (2012 on Tom Coughlin).
