Packers vs Vikings Predictions

Against the Spread Pick

I'm backing the Packers.

Over the past month and a half, the Packers have been better than the Vikings. Playing indoors in a huge matchup, I'll take the point and a half with Green Bay.

Over/Under

My projections have this total at 48.5 points, so I'm right in line with the market and will pass on betting either side.

My Pick: Packers +1.5

Packers vs Vikings Week 17 Preview, Predictions

There’s a perception that the Vikings are a better team than the Packers, but this line indicates that they’re pretty much even, especially since Green Bay is on the road and playing on short rest after dominating the Saints on Monday night.

Also, the Packers handled that game against New Orleans easily. They took care of business and got their starters out of the game.

These teams played back in Week 4, and the Packers have overtaken the Vikings in terms of my power ratings. Green Bay is now third in DVOA and Minnesota is sixth, and the Packers are rated higher in Weighted DVOA, which weighs recent games more heavily.

A lot of people still think of this Vikings defense as a top-three unit in the NFL, but the Packers are third in Weighted DVOA while Minnesota is sixth. For the season, Green Bay is up to sixth.

Jordan Love has stopped turning the ball over; he's without an interception in five straight games. The Packers are also up to fourth in Rush DVOA and have shown that they can run the ball on pretty much any team.

On the other side, Sam Darnold has everything going his way. The Vikings have been getting a lot of lucky breaks and actually entered the top three in our NFL Luck Rankings this week.

The Packers, meanwhile, keep chugging along and winning convincingly, becoming a powerhouse at the right time in the NFL season.

Christian Watson’s status is up in the air, while Jaire Alexander has been out for most of the season — but the Packers defense has continued playing well without him. He’d be a big boost, but Green Bay doesn’t need him.

In the first matchup, the Packers outgained the Vikings by 91 yards and were doomed by Love’s turnovers in his first game back from the knee injury he suffered in Week 1. Green Bay also missed two field goals in that game and has a much betting kicking situation with Brandon McManus.

Everything is better right now for the Packers compared to the Vikings. I’ll take the Packers on the road in what could be a real statement win late in the season.

My Pick: Packers +1.5
