Before the season began, the Chiefs had a potentially dynamic group of playmakers at Patrick Mahomes' disposal. Rashee Rice was coming off a breakout season, while rookie Xavier Worthy was highly touted and TE Travis Kelce is always a threat.
The addition of Hollywood Brown was what potentially put this offense over the top. The veteran playmaker's addition created a strong trio of receivers, but an injury before the season meant his debut was delayed until Week 16.
Here's a recap of Brown's season and how you should bet him in the Super Bowl.
Hollywood Brown Player Props
While Hollywood Brown’s production hasn’t been key to the Chiefs offense, his presence on the field has changed how Kansas City has lined up.
Before Brown’s Week 16 debut, the Chiefs were relying more on two-receiver sets with Xavier Worthy and DeAndre Hopkins with TE Noah Gray and the rest of the receiving corps rotating in. Since then, Gray has taken a back seat and we’ve seen more three-receiver sets.
In the two regular-season games that Brown played, he had nine catches on 15 targets for 91 yards. In the Chiefs’ two playoff games, though, Brown has three catches on seven targets for 35 yards. All of that production came against the Bills after getting two targets but no receptions in the Divisional Round against the Texans.
Ironically, Brown’s two highest snap counts have come in the playoffs when his production has decreased. His average depth of target has also increased in the playoffs after being 7.0 and 9.3 in his two regular-season games, which indicates the Chiefs might have just wanted to get his feet in the offense.
So, how do we bet on Brown?
If you believe the Chiefs will be in control of this game, it’s easy to bet on his unders. My focus is on under 42.5 receiving yards, which is available at DraftKings.
If you think the Chiefs will be playing from behind and the Eagles are on the front foot, his overs might be worth a look if the offensive game script is more pass-heavy than expected.
Our expert Sean Koerner has Brown projected for 37.5 receiving yards, though, so I’d bet the under on him down to 40.5.
Pick: Hollywood Brown Under 42.5 Receiving Yards (-109, DraftKings)
