Justin Herbert was questionable to play in the Chargers game against the Steelers with a high-ankle sprain. There was some speculation that even if he felt good enough, the team might opt to take a safer route and allow him to rest up before Week 4’s division clash against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Instead, he toughed it out in typical Herbert fashion and started against Pittsburgh and its vaunted defense. Unfortunately, he was forced to leave the game after taking a vicious sack midway through the third quarter by Elandon Roberts. Herbert handed the ball off on the next play before hobbling off the field. He was replaced by Taylor Heinicke.
Herbert fell to the ground after reaching the sideline and was looked at by the training staff before eventually making his way into the blue medical tent. He emerged a short while later and returned to the bench with his helmet off.
Herbert was 12-of-18 for 125 yards and a touchdown before leaving the game.
