Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels and Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers have made a $10,000 bet on the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award that may violate NFL gambling rules.
The two former LSU teammates confirmed the bets on two different podcasts, with Daniels saying on Keyshawn Johnson's podcast that, "Man, he wasn't supposed to tell nobody. We got a little something going on."
NFL sports gambling laws don't allow players or staff to wager on anything having to do with the league, including awards ceremonies, the draft or the combine. These bylaws include "private wagers between teammates, family and friends, or others."
Nabers and Daniels also both confirmed in their respective podcast appearances that the wager was for $10,000 cash.
With rookie minicamps beginning this week — and, in conjunction, gambling orientation sessions — this bet could be canceled by the league, ESPN reported.
As of Thursday afternoon, Daniels and Nabers are among the top four favorites to win this award — but they'll have to catch No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams (+170) in order to do so. Williams is joining a team that finished the season with the best defense in the NFL — the Bears had the No. 1 overall pick not because they were a bad team, but because they traded down for the No. 1 overall pick in 2023, which eventually became Bryce Young.
Daniels is second-best on the odds board at +600. Marvin Harrison Jr. (+700) is slated above Nabers at the WR position. Meanwhile, J.J. McCarthy (+1400) is tied with Nabers (+1400) as the fourth-best favorite in this marketplace, according to FanDuel.
