JJ Watt just made a sports bettor's bad day a whole lot better.
During the second quarter of a 27-17 Cardinals win over the Rams, Watt recovered what appeared to be a strip sack and had a clear path to the end zone.
But officials blew the play dead for an incomplete pass.
After review, the play was ruled a fumble. However, because the sequence had been blown dead, the Cardinals took over possession where Watt recovered the football.
The missed call had limited impact on the game, especially because the Cardinals got seven anyway on the ensuing drive.
But bettors everywhere groaned. Those with the Cardinals defense to score an any time TD at roughly +1000 had their bets go down in flames.
And one bettor with a $1,000 parlay on the line was particularly tilted.
That man — who goes by JoeyLays (@JReyes192) — tweeted at Watt on Monday morning about his predicament.
they blew that play dead but you would’ve walked in the endzone…should’ve won $1000, wanna help a brotha out? 😂😅 pic.twitter.com/s0BHRUd3hQ

He would have netted $1,008 in profit had the referees not mistakenly blown the play dead. Instead, he's out $27.77.
Watt responded by saying they had both had been "screwed" and offered restitution for the bad beat. It's unclear what exactly Watt plans on sending JoeyLays' way.
Yeah you got screwed. (we both did 😂)
I got you.

While Watt didn't lose any money on that play — he doesn't have any touchdown incentives in his contract — he did improve his chances of earning a $1 million bonus at year's end.
A sack on Sunday gave Watt 5.5 on the year. 10 sacks or more gives him the extra million to go on top of his $13.5 million salary. Perhaps some of that may be heading the bettor's way.
