The Kansas City Chiefs flipped the script in the 2023 season, winning their second consecutive Super Bowl as much on the strength of their defense as the wizardry of Patrick Mahomes & Co. on the other side of the ball.

Chiefs fans, you can rejoice, as one of the biggest pieces of that defense will be back for 2024. Late Saturday night, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the Chiefs had agreed to a historic deal with defensive tackle Chris Jones.

Chiefs and five-time Pro-Bowl DT Chris Jones reached agreement on a record 5-year deal that includes $95 million guaranteed and allows KC to keep its best defender before free agency begins, per his agents, @KatzBrosSports.

As Schefter reported, the five-year, $95 million deal for Jones would be the highest average annual salary ever for a defensive tackle. Jones recorded 10.5 sacks for the Chiefs in the regular season. He was named an All-Pro for the fifth time in his eight years in Kansas City last year as well.

While the Chiefs are undoubtedly stacked, they are not the favorites to win Super Bowl LIX next year in New Orleans. Instead, the San Francisco 49ers are the betting favorites to win the 2025 Super Bowl at +500 at FanDuel Sportsbook and +550 at DraftKings. The Chiefs are right behind the 49ers at +650 and +600, respectively.

Kansas City has a chance to become the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls. The 1965-67 Green Bay Packers won three straight NFL championships, but the 1965 title came before the first Super Bowl at the end of the 1966 season.

Bringing Jones back on his historic deal could be a big step toward the Chiefs making another kind of history.
