Lions vs. Packers
Whisper it quietly, but there are a lot of rookie TEs playing well in the NFL this season despite the age-old belief that they struggle to adapt to the pros in their rookie reasons. Of all the league’s tight-end talent, it’s been Sam LaPorta who has shined the brightest.
Last week, he scored his first touchdown; his usage has also risen each week:
- Week 1: 5 targets (5 receptions)
- Week 2: 6 targets (5 receptions)
- Week 3: 11 targets (8 receptions)
It’s clear that he’s a major part of the Lions' game plan and the Packers have been fairly middle of the road against TEs this season.
Pick: Sam LaPorta Over 4.5 Receptions (+110)
Lions vs. Packers
The rookie TE lovefest continues, but this time we’re backing the home team’s Luke Musgrave to go over 35.5 receiving yards. This line feels like a home run, and it’s my best bet of Thursday Night Football.
Aaron Jones and Christian Watson are still questionable, and although they might return, I don’t see them having a major impact on Musgrave’s potential for serious yardage.
Musgrave has broken 35.5 receiving yards in two of his three games. It’s clear that Jordan Love and Matt LaFleur trust him as evidenced by eight targets against the Saints last week.
No team in the NFL has given up more yards to TEs than the Lions, who have averaged 87.67 yards to the position per game. I think as little as three receptions might be enough to smash this line.
Pick: Luke Musgrave Over 35.5 Receiving Yards (-110)
Lions vs. Packers
You can get +130 on a Jahmyr Gibbs TD, which feels like huge value when some books have him as short as -115.
Dan Campbell has indicated that David Montgomery should return on TNF despite still being questionable, but regardless of that, I think Gibbs is live to score a touchdown at +130.
Gibbs has yet to find the end zone, but he’s been very efficient when on the field, averaging 4.7 yards per carry against the Falcons in his first game handling the bulk of carries.
There are only four teams who have allowed more rushing yards than the Packers, which is a good indicator that Gibbs should be able to have a good day and has a decent chance of getting into the end zone.
