Giants vs Rams odds for NFL Week 17 have the Rams listed as 5.5-point favorites on the spread, with a game total over/under of 43.5. For my Giants vs Rams prediction & pick for NFL Week 17, I'm betting the over.

The Rams have been on fire since their bye, winning five of their last six games to make a playoff push that seemed improbable during the preseason. Meanwhile, the Giants have tailed off and dropped each of their last two games after piecing together a three-game winning streak.

Giants vs Rams Preview

Tommy DeVito’s run as the Giants' starter has concluded. After Tyrod Taylor nearly led a comeback against the Eagles, he earned the starting job again.

The good news is that the Giants are finally playing their best passer. Per PFF, Taylor is the Giants' highest-rated quarterback, has the best QBR and has the highest yards per attempt. Taylor flashed the extra dimension he provides when he connected with Darius Slayton for a 69-yard touchdown last week.

Taylor’s intended air yards per attempt is 8.4, about 1.6 more than either DeVito or Daniel Jones. Taylor’s willingness and ability to throw deep will make the Giants much harder to cover as New York utilizes the receiver talent that has been wasting away.

Those deep throws should pull defenders away from the line of scrimmage and open up running lanes for Saquon Barkley. Barkley has struggled to find room to run in recent weeks, averaging 3.5 yards per carry in his last four games. Prior to that, Barkley was averaging 4.25 yards per carry.

Defensively, the Giants have played with reckless abandon. They blitz at the second-highest rate in the league, per Pro Football Reference. Sending pressure can create big plays, but it also allows offenses to create big plays. The Giants have forced the sixth-most turnovers, but rank 27th in points allowed and 28th in yards allowed.

The Rams are one of the hottest teams in the NFL. Matthew Stafford has taken his game to another level. He has a 107.7 quarterback rating and a 15:2 TD:INT ratio since the Rams' bye (Week 10). His recent run of success has boosted his PFF grade to a career-high 88.5.

The success of the passing game has helped open up the rushing attack. In his first five games, Kyren Williams averaged 3.9 yards per carry. An ankle sprain forced him to miss time, but since returning, he's been on fire, averaging 5.4 yards per carry.

Defensively, the Rams have been better since the bye, but there's a recent trend that looks worrisome. In their last two games, Los Angeles built massive leads, but allowed its opponent to fight back.

Against Washington, the Rams were up 28-7 early in the fourth quarter but only won 28-20. Against New Orleans, they were up 30-7 with seven minutes remaining but only won 30-22.

When opposing offenses dial up the aggression, L.A.’s defense has collapsed. We will have to see if that is a symptom of poor play calling or something opponents can leverage late in games.

Giants vs Rams Prediction & Pick

Both of these teams are hard to trust against the spread. The Rams' defensive collapses of late mean no lead is safe while the Giants frequently have games where nothing goes right.

So, we're going to look at the total. In the two games Tyrod Taylor started and finished, the Giants have had two of their top-four yardage totals. His ability to incorporate a deep passing attack should give the offense the pop it previously missed.

As for the Rams, they have a veteran quarterback playing excellent football against a blitz-heavy defense. Matthew Stafford should be able to make quick reads and make the Giants pay for their aggressiveness.
