The Mac Jones era in New England is officially over. Officially.
On Sunday morning, there were multiple reports that the New England Patriots were trading Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a late-round pick — reportedly a single sixth-rounder.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapaport, four teams were reportedly "in the mix" to trade for Jones. However, NFL on CBS insider Jonathan Jones reports that the Jaguars had "the best — and only — offer for Mac Jones as of yesterday."
The Jaguars had the best — and only — offer for Mac Jones as of yesterday, source says. A sixth-round pick for the former No. 15 overall selection. Jones returns to his hometown to backup Trevor Lawrence. ESPN first on the trade.

Jones averaged 192.7 yards passing in 11 starts for the Patriots in 2023. Jones had a solid rookie season for New England in 2021, as the Patriots went 10-7 during the regular season. However, regression hit hard in Jones' second season, as he posted a 38.4 QBR as the Patriots finished under .500. Jones was then benched for good during the Patriots' Week 12 loss to the Giants.
