Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh could be ready to take the National Championship and run.
Harbaugh, rightfully, wants to take some time to celebrate winning the title at his alma mater. But rumors were already swirling about a potential move back to the NFL and those rumors will only amplify over the next couple of weeks.
“I just want to enjoy this,” Harbaugh said after the game. “I just want to enjoy this. I hope you give me that. Can a guy have that? Does it always have to be what's next, what's the future? Like I said the other day, yeah, I hope to have a future. I hope there's a tomorrow, a day after tomorrow, a next week, a next month, a next year.”
According to a report from The Messenger, Harbaugh's father Jack said Jim is ready for the next challenge. He did not say whether that meant a jump back to the NFL or trying to repeat at Michigan.
“In my lifetime, I’ve known some very, very competitive people,” Jack Harbaugh told The Messenger. “Jim is one of the most competitive. He looks for challenges and takes great satisfaction in being able to overcome challenges. Jim will enjoy this for a week or two, but he’s looking for the next one now. He’s looking for the next challenge now. I’m not saying anything. That could be repeating, which is harder. Whatever challenge he accepts, he will accomplish it.”
Michigan is +1000 to repeat as champions at DraftKings.
There are plenty of reasons why Harbaugh would be interested in making the jump to the NFL. For one, he has been embroiled in controversies and investigations over the past couple of years at Michigan.
He became the first coach to be suspended twice for two separate violations in the same season. He was suspended for the first four games for recruiting violations that violated COVID policies. And he was suspended for the final three regular-season games for the infamous violations of staff members video taping other teams' games.
That investigation doesn't seem like it's going to go away any time soon, which could be a good reason for Harbaugh to jump ship to the NFL.
There are currently six head coaching job openings in the NFL: Falcons, Titans, Chargers, Commanders, Raiders and Panthers. All six of those teams would be very interested in bringing in Harbaugh.
