Melvin Gordon
ATD (+160, FanDuel)
It should be noted that Gordon is dealing with injuries to his neck and ribs and is listed as questionable for this game.
If he is active, Gordon won’t be a sexy pick, but we know what we’re getting from him. Part of that is an active player in the red zone, where he has 10 carries and two targets this season.
The Chargers run defense has been abysmal this season, allowing eight touchdowns to opposing RBs, which is the second most in the NFL.
If Gordon can avoid the fumbles, this is a great price for him to score against his former team.
Gerald Everett
ATD (+260, FanDuel)
Normally, I’d want to hammer the Chargers wide receivers in this spot, but the Broncos secondary has been tough to score on this season. Denver has allowed just one touchdown to an opposing wide receiver this season and ranks first in yards allowed to the position.
Where the Broncos have had some vulnerability this season is in defending tight ends, a position that has scored twice against them this season.
Everett has two touchdowns this season, and he has more targets than Josh Palmer or Keenan Allen-replacement DeAndre Carter. Expect him to play a significant role on Monday Night Football.
Justin Herbert
ATD (+750, BetMGM)
The Broncos pass defense has been tough to beat, but their run stopping is middle of the pack. You could tell that yourself if you watched their Week 4 loss to the Raiders, which saw Josh Jacobs run all over them. In Week 5, Denver got an easy matchup against a Colts offense without Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines, who only got one touch before suffering a concussion.
Herbert is more mobile than most, and he seems to have recovered from the rib injury that he suffered in Week 4. If the Chargers get in the red zone, he may be forced to tuck and run if Denver has his receivers covered.
Herbert is +500 or lower at pretty much every other sportsbook, so be sure to get the best number here. bet365 has the next best number at +550.
