With The Big Game fast approaching, the Kansas City Chiefs are on the brink of history, aiming to become the first team to win three straight championships, with Patrick Mahomes leading the charge. While Mahomes continues to build his legacy, fans have spent the season voicing their opinions on his performances, and those of his fellow quarterbacks across the league.
Every year, certain QBs get hyped up, whether it's due to a new contract, a breakout season, or historical performances. However, when it comes time to deliver, many supporters online are quick to let the players know when they didn’t live up to expectations.
So, who did fans think was the most overrated this season? We used social listening to scan through social posts on X and Reddit all season long, tracking which quarterbacks were called "overrated" the most.
Here are the QBs that fans believe got way too much love this season.
The Most Overrated Quarterbacks in the NFL This Season
1. Josh Allen (Buffalo Bills)
Josh Allen’s tenure as quarterback for the Bills has led to them earning the top seed in the AFC East this season, rounding things out with a 13-4 record. With discussions of the top QBs being so heated this year, though, those occasional losses seem to have sparked discussion of whether Allen can compete with top names.
Earlier this year, a survey of over 100 NFL players saw them vote him as the league’s most overrated QB. With 21,160 posts on social media branding him as overrated, he takes a comfortable lead on our list – news that the 2024-2025 NFL MVP probably wouldn’t be too happy about.
2. Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs)
One of the biggest names in the NFL in recent years, Patrick Mahomes has led the Chiefs to a strong regular season record, but through a series of victories that have sometimes felt more like a lucky break than a dominant run.
As other quarterbacks like Allen and Jackson rise through the ranks, Mahomes’ hype looks to be dying down with the end of the 2024-25 season, as our social media findings suggest 15,420 fans have described him as overrated. However, a three-peat would be the perfect way for Mahomes to reignite the hype surrounding his name.
3. Aaron Rodgers (New York Jets)
The 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers has been active in the NFL since 2005, making him the longest-tenured active QB in the league. After 19 seasons, his 2024-25 performance has underwhelmed compared to his typical standards. Under his wing, the New York Jets only achieved a 5-12 record this year and failed to make the playoffs.
A total 8,380 fans on social media seem to agree that Rodgers’ shine has come off this year, despite predictions in the preseason that he’d find great success. As younger quarterbacks start to make a name for themselves, his performance has begun to draw criticism from fans looking for a change.
4. Jalen Hurts (Philadelphia Eagles)
The 2024-25 season has been full of reasons to be cheerful for Eagles fans. One area of concern, however, is the team’s offensive capability under the guidance of quarterback Jalen Hurts. Fans often point out that other players on the team have picked up the slack for Hurts to carry the Eagles to victory.
Our social media research found 6,000 fans posting about Hurts being overrated, giving him a place at No. 4 in our rankings.
5. Lamar Jackson (Baltimore Ravens)
While Lamar Jackson has been one of the league’s best-performing quarterbacks for several years, even winning MVP titles in 2019 and 2023, his playoff performances repeatedly draw the ire of Ravens fans. No matter how strong they appear to be in the regular season, the team always seems to hit a wall in the postseason despite finishing with high seeds.
This streak of playoff losses, compared to the consistent praise Jackson receives from analysts and players, could be why 4,720 fans describe him as overrated on social media. He ends up at No. 5 on our list, just beating out Joe Burrow (Bengals) and Justin Herbert (Chargers).
Methodology
To create the ranking, we analyzed social listening data from X and Reddit to identify the most overrated NFL teams, quarterbacks, and coaches of the 2024-25 season.
All posts containing "overrated" were tracked and filtered since the first week of pre-season, with mentions grouped and ranked by frequency for each person/team.
Data accurate as of Jan. 27, 2025.
