It's okay to admit you were wrong. This is a public service announcement to anyone who was bullish on the Denver Broncos in 2022 under Nathaniel Hackett.
Hackett, hired before the season, was fired Monday on the heels of a 51-14 beat-down to the BIG, BAD Los Angeles Rams on Christmas Day.
And after glossing over the betting results, records and lowlights from Hackett's short tenure (thanks to our own Evan Abrams!) it's safe to call the hire a bad bet by Broncos management.
Nathaniel Hackett Betting Record, Results with Broncos
Hackett was +1500 to win Coach of the Year before the season.
Yet after Week 16, he became just the fourth coach in NFL history fired before finishing his first season and the only coach ever booted mid-season by Denver.
Hackett was ousted after going 4-11 straight up and 6-9 against the spread.
Entering Week 17, the Broncos are the least-profitable team on the moneyline ($100 bettors would be -$798), ahead of the Texans (2-12-1, -$795) and Bears (3-12, -$607).
For an offensive-minded coach, Hackett never panned out with Russell Wilson leading the charge for Broncos country.
Denver is in danger of finishing dead-last in the league in scoring for the first time in franchise history. The offense is averaging 15.5 points per game, while the second-worst club is Houston (16.9).
Under Hackett's tutelage, Denver posted fewer than 17 points 11 times, the most of any team over the last 10 seasons. Mind you, there are still two games left to play!
And if there's anyone out there praising Hackett, it's under bettors.
The Broncos are tied for the best under mark in the NFL (11-4), and since the start of last season, they have compiled a blistering mark of 23-9 to the under, the best clip in football.
The Broncos are anywhere from +13 to +13.5 for their Sunday, Week 17 clash against the Kansas City Chiefs, with an over/under ranging from 43.5 to 45.
