This article contains predictions for an old game.

The New Orleans Saints (2-6) and Carolina Panthers (1-7) will begin the Sunday afternoon slate of NFL Week 9 at 1 p.m. ET from Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. The game will be live on CBS and can be streamed on Paramount+, YouTube TV and other services. The Saints are favored by 7 points over the Panthers (Saints -7) with the over/under set at 43.5 points. The Saints are -360 on the moneyline to win and Carolina is +280 to pull off the upset.

The Saints lost 26-8 last week to the Chargers. However, Derek Carr will return for New Orleans after missing 3 games, which resulted in 3 straight losses to bring their overall losing streak to 6. The Panthers lost 28-14 last week to the Broncos. Bryce Young is back under center after getting benched for Andy Dalton.

Let's get into my Saints vs. Panthers prediction and my NFL picks and predictions for Week 9.

Saints vs. Panthers Expert Picks

Spread

I'm giving the people a chance to do something they've been wanting to do all season: fade the Carolina Panthers.

Bryce Young returned to action last week, but it didn't matter. Carolina lost by 14 points to the Broncos on the road and now has lost all seven of its games by double digits, including four defeats by 23 or more points.

Derek Carr is set to return for New Orleans, and the Panthers defense has been atrocious this season. We'll lay the points and bet the Saints.

Moneyline

I'm not betting the moneyline and focusing my bet on the Saints against the spread.

Over/Under

I'm not betting the game total for this one.

My pick: Saints -7.5

Saints vs. Panthers NFL Week 9

The Saints have lost six games in a row since starting 2-0. We’re finally fading the Panthers after believing in them before the season.

Carolina is so bad and has totally punted on the season, while this feels like a must-win game for the Saints. If New Orleans loses and falls to 2-7, the season is over. A win that gets it to 3-6 while getting more healthy, a run to a wild-card spot isn’t out of the equation.

Derek Carr is clearly the difference-maker for the Saints. This team can run its offense the way it wants to when Carr is back there, with the focus on the passing game through play action. Teams can’t focus in on Alvin Kamara, which will create opportunities down the field.

The Panthers struggle defensively against the pass and is without two of their best players on that side of the ball, so this could be a get-right spot for New Orleans.

Carolina has been the get-right game for a few other teams on its schedule already this season, so why not the Saints? With Carr back, this offense has a matchup to start moving back toward being the offense it was in the first two weeks of the season when people were thinking they might be legit.

Pick: Saints -7.5
