Injuries are an unfortunate, unavoidable part of the NFL.
Several stars have already suffered significant injuries as we approach the quarter pole of the 2024 campaign. Some have received positive updates, others haven’t been as fortunate. Here’s the latest update on several notable injuries.
49ers Running Back Christian McCaffrey
The big news last week was that McCaffrey traveled to Germany to receive treatment on the Achilles injury that’s kept him out all year. However, there’s more to the injury than previously known as head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed McCaffrey has Achilles tendinitis in both legs. There’s no timetable for his return.
Browns Running Back Nick Chubb
Cleveland opened up the practice window for Chubb, who suffered a significant knee injury in Week 2 last year. He began the season on the physically unable to perform list and the Browns now have 21 days to add him to the active roster. They can certainly use him as they rank 26th in rushing.
Chiefs Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
Kansas City is bracing for the worst after Rice hurt his knee via some friendly fire from Patrick Mahomes. The initial fear was that he'd be out for the year, and while that’s still possible, he’s reportedly receiving several different opinions and tests to figure out the full extent of his injury.
Colts Quarterback Anthony Richardson
The Colts appear to have dodged a bullet after it looked like Richardson might miss significant time for the second straight year. He left Sunday’s win over the Steelers in the first quarter after getting drilled in the hip. Fortunately, he’s reportedly day-to-day with oblique and abdominal strains and might be back as soon as next week against the Jaguars.
Colts Running Back Jonathan Taylor
Taylor was forced out of the game late in the fourth quarter after sustaining an ankle injury. He’s reportedly dealing with a high ankle sprain. Fortunately, it’s apparently only a mild strain and the running back said he’s “feeling pretty good.”
Buccaneers Wide Receiver Mike Evans
Evans shined in Tampa Bay’s 33-16 win over the Eagles, catching eight passes for 94 yards and a touchdown. He didn’t appear to suffer any injury. However, with the Buccaneers playing Thursday night, they released an estimated practice report in which they listed Evans as a DNP with knee and calf injuries.
Saints Tight End Taysom Hill
Hill returned from a rib injury to score two touchdowns in the Week 4 loss to the Falcons. Unfortunately, he was forced out of the game with an injury to the other side of his ribs. The Saints don’t play again until Monday night, so Hill will have an extra day to recover as he attempts to play against the Chiefs.
Packers Wide Receiver Christian Watson
Green Bay got Jordan Love back in Week 4, but unfortunately lost one of his top weapons in Watson. The wide receiver suffered a high ankle sprain bad enough that he's reportedly a candidate for IR.
Giants Wide Receiver Malik Nabers
The rookie was in the midst of another standout game when he suffered a concussion late in the Giants' loss to the Cowboys. We’ll have a better idea of how he is when the team returns to practice Wednesday, but for what it’s worth, he took to social media after the game to let fans know there was no reason to worry about his health.
Cowboys Defensive End Micah Parsons
Parsons suffered a high ankle sprain in the Cowboys' Thursday night win over the Giants. He’s never missed a game in his career, but he’s reportedly in serious jeopardy of missing Dallas’ Week 5 game against the Steelers.
Cowboys Defensive End DeMarcus Lawrence
Dallas lost another of its star pass rushers as Lawrence suffered a Lisfranc injury. His is apparently more severe than Parsons’ as he’s expected to miss at least four weeks, making him an IR candidate.
