NFL Schedule Changes
Matchup | Previous Date | New Date |
---|---|---|
Raiders-Browns | Saturday, Dec. 18 | Monday, Dec. 20 |
Seahawks-Rams | Sunday, Dec. 19 | Tuesday, Dec. 21 |
WFT-Eagles | Sunday, Dec. 19 | Tuesday, Dec. 21 |
With more than 100 COVID cases across the NFL, the league has moved three Week 15 games off their original dates to be played next Monday and Tuesday.
The Cleveland Browns vs. Las Vegas Raiders matchup will be moved from Saturday to Monday while the Philadelphia Eagles vs. Washington Football Team and Seattle Seahawks vs. Los Angeles Rams matchups will be moved from Sunday to Tuesday, according to multiple NFL insiders.
These scheduling changes, coupled with the Thursday Night Football and Christmas Day matchups in Week 16, there will be at least one NFL game played on eight of the next 10 days — starting with Patriots-Colts this Sunday night (find the full NFL schedule here).
The Browns, Rams and Football Team are among teams with the most players on the COVID/Reserve list in Week 15 (we're tracking which players are those lists here).
The Browns have key players Baker Mayfield, Jarvis Landry and Wyatt Teller, among others, on theirs. The Rams' list features Von Miller, Jalen Ramsey, Odell Beckham Jr. and more. And the Football Team placed both quarterbacks Taylor Heinicke and Kyle Allen on the list this week, in addition to more than 10 others.
The Browns were the first team to see a widespread outbreak, moving the line nearly 10 points. Cleveland had been a 6-point favorite and shifted to a 3.5-point underdog before the game was postponed (check real-time NFL odds here).
Albeit a fluid situation, it appears these are the only three games being moved for Week 15.
The timing is awful from multiple standpoints. The league and teams are in the homestretch of playoff races with just four games remaining. Fantasy football leagues are entering the playoffs this week. Sports bettors already have plays locked in, but will now be stuck with nothing more than stories of closing line value, depending on the house rules of their sportsbook.
