Joe Flacco will start for the Cleveland Browns Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. Flacco was signed by the Browns on Nov. 20 after starting quarterback Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending shoulder injury five days earlier. Flacco hasn't played a game this season and the former Super Bowl MVP last took a snap in January with the New YorkJets.
The news of Joe Flacco getting the starting nod didn't impact the spread or total at all — the Browns are between 3.5- and 4-point underdogs on the road at SoFi Stadium with the total sitting at 40.5 at most books.
The Browns have shuffled through back-up quarterbacks all season with Watson in and out of the lineup. P.J. Walker started two games for the Browns this season and has a 1-1 record in those games, but threw just one touchdown and five interceptions this season. Rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson hasn't fared much better in his three starts with a 1-3 record and four interceptions to just one touchdown.
According to Action Network Director of Research, Evan Abrams, the Browns this is the 56th time in the last decade the Browns are starting a backup quarterback. In those games, the Browns are 19-37 straight up and 26-29-1 against the spread. Their last 10 games with a backup under center have been much more competitive, though, with the Browns posting 6-3-1 ATS record.
