With the NFL season coming to a close, the dust has settled on months of bold predictions, sky-high expectations, and inevitable letdowns. Some teams lived up to the hype, while others fell short, proving once again that preseason buzz doesn’t always translate to success on the field. The term “overrated” is always subjective, but which teams do fans believe get too much love?
To find out, we analyzed social posts across X and Reddit throughout the entire 2024-25 season, tracking how often fans labeled franchises overrated. Our findings reveal which teams generated the most unwarranted hype, according to public opinion.
Here are your picks for the NFL’s most overrated teams.
The Most Overrated Teams in the NFL This Season
1. Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys have one of the biggest and loudest fanbases of any team in the NFL, but their spot at No. 1 on our list is perhaps surprising, given their performance last season.
We found just under 10,980 posts from the 2024-25 season branding the Cowboys as overrated, even though they finished third in the NFC East with just a 7-10 record. Despite star-making performances from kicker Brandon Aubrey, they struggled against various playoff contenders and won just two games at home.
So, why do so many NFL fans consider them overrated? It may be down to the Cowboys’ dedicated supporters rather than the team itself, as hype always rides high around the team at the start of a season.
2. Philadelphia Eagles
Finishing the season with a 14-3 record (the second-best in the league), the Philadelphia Eagles topped the standings in the NFC East. Despite winning the NFC, thanks to some big performances from superstars such as Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley, the Eagles' offense has faced scrutiny from fans throughout the 2024-25 regular season.
We pulled 10,800 social media posts from NFL fans describing the Eagles as overrated. Similar to the Cowboys, Eagles fans are a major force in NFL discussions, which may contribute to their presence on our list. However, for a team with a strong chance of winning the Super Bowl, there are still issues that need to be worked out.
3. Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs have a chance to make NFL history this year. After winning back-to-back Super Bowls in 2023 and 2024, they could be the first team to ever win three championships in a row. With a 15-2 record this season, including a perfect streak of home games, the No. 1 team in the AFC has continued their impressive form, which has led to yet another Super Bowl appearance.
As much as they won a majority of their games, though, they mostly won them by narrow margins, making them seem nowhere near as dominant as they have in recent years.
Being the top team for so long will always draw critics, and with 10,360 posts in our database calling the Chiefs overrated, they take third place on our list.
4. Pittsburgh Steelers
Over the last few seasons, the Steelers have consistently made the playoffs and racked up solid regular season records. This year has been no different, clinching a wild card spot with a 10-7 record. While they opened 2024-25 strongly, their last few games saw four consecutive losses that hurt their postseason hopes considerably.
As concern grows around head coach Mike Tomlin, the Steelers rank fourth on our list of the most overrated NFL teams, with 7,860 fans on social media complaining of their performance.
5. Baltimore Ravens
Over the last few years, the Baltimore Ravens have consistently been a force to be reckoned with in the NFL but haven’t quite been able to convert their success into a championship. With the No. 1 spot in their division and Lamar Jackson ending up in MVP conversations once again, they were in good stead for the playoffs until a loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Doubts still linger about whether they’ll be able to finally beat other competitors, though, as they’ve choked their chances several times since becoming championship contenders. They round out our top five, with 7,720 fans describing them as overrated.
