Part of being a halfway decent sports analyst is having the ability to admit when you were wrong – hand up, I was very wrong about this Green Bay team. I thought the Packers’ playoff chances were totally dead before the midway point of the season when they stumbled out to a 2-5 start and scored 20 points or less in seven of their first nine contests.

To my surprise, this young Green Bay team has quickly blossomed before our very eyes. After falling short of the 20-point mark in seven of nine contests, the Packers averaged over 25 points per game across a 6-2 run to close the regular season – and they solidified their claim to fame with a dominant 48-point performance in a road playoff win over Dallas.

Quite frankly, I’m not sure if Green Bay’s defense has enough juice to win this game. I’m not even sure if they have enough juice to cover the spread. But any way you slice it, I think we’re going to see Jordan Love and the Packers sling the ball around the yard and stake their claim in this contest.

Love has cleared the 250-yard passing mark in eight of the Packers’ last 10 games, with seven of those performances soaring over 265 yards, and four of them climbing up to 280-plus yards. This is arguably Love’s toughest task yet against a 49ers secondary that ranks fifth in yards allowed per pass attempt. But at this point, I trust the Packers offense to perform at a modest level against pretty much anybody.

Pick: Jordan Love Over 245.5 Passing Yards (-110)

Brock Purdy

Under 0.5 Interceptions (-120)

Not too long ago, it seemed like Brock Purdy was destined to win MVP.

The 49ers boasted an NFL-best record of 11-4 with just three games left in the regular season, and the only question was whether one of Purdy’s teammates — Christian McCaffrey had a legitimate claim to the throne — would steal the award from him as the QB ranked top three in almost every major passing efficiency category.

Well, the countless hours of debate were all for nothing. In Week 16, Purdy completed just 56% of his passes and threw four interceptions in an ugly 33-19 loss to Baltimore, bringing the MVP conversations to a screeching halt as Lamar Jackson immediately took the reins and closed the regular season as a -8000 favorite at bet365.

However, throwing four interceptions in a game isn’t characteristic of Purdy at all. Aside from his one bad performance against Baltimore, Purdy threw an interception in just 5-of-15 starts this season, and three of the games in which he was intercepted came during the 49ers’ weird three-game losing streak in the middle of the season when they were dealing with a bunch of injuries on offense.

The 49ers had an extra week to rest up and prepare for this one. I expect to see an ironclad game plan from Kyle Shanahan in this contest, which should lead to another clean game for Purdy.

Pick: Brock Purdy Under 0.5 Interceptions (-120)

Christian McCaffrey

Over 89.5 Rushing Yards (-114)

Running backs don’t enter the MVP conversation simply because they are the most productive player on the best offense in the league. It takes a special kind of campaign in order to receive such a high level of praise, and in his first full season with San Francisco, Christian McCaffrey has been a dream come true for the 49ers.

McCaffrey, one of the most versatile backs in the league, oftentimes doesn’t get the credit he deserves as a ballcarrier due to his ability to make big plays in the passing game. But make no mistake about it: McCaffrey was the best ballcarrier this season by a wide margin as he led the NFL in rushing by nearly 300 yards, averaging over 91 yards per game on 5.4 yards per carry.

The 49ers hit a rough patch in the middle of the season, which caused McCaffrey's numbers to dip a little bit as his rushing line for this contest sits at 88.5 yards. But the freight train is full steam ahead at this point.

McCaffrey rushed for 90-plus yards in six of his last eight regular-season outings while crossing the century mark in half of those affairs. He should be in for another big game against a Packers defensive front that ranks 24th in yards allowed per rush attempt.

Pick: Christian McCaffrey Over 89.5 Rushing Yards (-114)
