Bryce Young is out and Andy Dalton is in as Carolina's quarterback. The struggling franchise made the surprise move Monday afternoon, just two games into the season and 18 games into Young's career. The news immediately moved Panthers vs Raiders odds across the market.
At BetMGM, DraftKings and FanDuel, the spread was Panthers +7, according to the Action Network app, before the team announced the move. It is down to +5.5 at each of those books as of the time of writing. The total haas risen as well, up from 37.5 to 41.5.
As Avery Yang notes, the Panthers have been the worst team to bet on the moneyline with Young at quarterback. During his tenure as the Panthers' starter, Young is 2-16 straight up and 5-12-1 against the spread, according to Bet Labs. Only Daniel Jones has fewer wins against the spread (Jones is 0-8 ATS) over that stretch.
Dalton hasn't been a much better bet for a while. He hasn't had a winning record as a quarterback since the 2015-16 season and, over that eight-season stretch, Dalton is 39-47 ATS. Only Cam Newton, Russell Wilson and Matt Ryan have been less profitable against the spread over that span.
