I'm not betting any Lions to find the end zone tonight, and here's why.
The Lions' ATD odds are rightfully steamed. Playing at home, Jared Goff and this passing offense have historically performed better and sportsbooks are reflecting that with WRs like Amon-Ra St. Brown and Josh Reynolds and Jameson Williams as low as +150 to score. For St. Brown, sure, but neither Reynolds nor Williams has been below +225 all season. In a matchup against a Raiders secondary that has performed well and is only allowing 187.4 receiving yards per game (seventh in NFL), that makes me uneasy.
If I had to bet one Lions player for a touchdown, I’d consider backup RB Craig Reynolds. With RB1 David Montgomery out and rookie RB Jahmyr Gibbs recently coming off a hamstring injury, I expect the Lions to balance the touches in the backfield and let Reynolds handle some of the goal-line work. His Anytime TD odds range from +160 to +333, so shop around to ensure you get the best odds for your wager.
Through seven games, Meyers already has five touchdowns in his debut season with the Raiders.
This doesn’t appear to be a fluke either. Davante Adams is no doubt the Raiders’ WR1, but Meyers is tied with him for most targets inside the 10-yard line with nine.
Meyers has primarily played in the slot this season, and the Lions have struggled to cover that position. Detroit has allowed the fourth-most TDs in the NFL to slow receivers and the third-most catches.
With Jimmy Garoppolo returning and the Raiders likely facing a trailing game script on Monday Night Football, as well as the plus-matchup, I like Meyers to score again.
As of Sunday night at 11:30 p.m. ET, you could still bet Meyers at +300 at bet365. The next-best number was +235 at DraftKings.
