The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Baltimore Ravens in last year’s AFC Championship Game to win the conference on their way to capturing a second-straight Super Bowl. Now, 222 days later, the Ravens will kick off the season looking for revenge while the Chiefs will unveil yet another Super Bowl banner.
Baltimore has been installed as 3-point ‘dogs across all books heading into Week 1. The public loves it with 73% of all bets and 55% of the money backing the road team. In fact, it’s tied for the second-most popular pick of the week as of Monday with only the Steelers +3 against Atlanta having more tickets (75%).
Meanwhile, oddsmakers have set the total between 46 and 46.5 heading into kickoff. There’s a sizable gulf between the number of tickets backing the over (83%) and the amount of money on the under (62%). The 45% differential is the second-largest as of Monday, just behind the 47% difference between tickets and money for the Jets–49ers game.
A major topic heading into Thursday’s season opener is the battle of the quarterbacks. Both Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson are two-time league MVPs, but it’s Mahomes who has gotten the better of Jackson over the years. He’s 3-1 in games against Jackson and 4-1 all-time against Baltimore. He’s thrown 13 touchdowns and just two interceptions while averaging 344 yards per game and a 115.5 passer rating.
The Chiefs are favored to once again win the Super Bowl at +550. Another Super Bowl might make Mahomes' Chiefs the greatest dynasty in NFL history as the first to win the Lombardi Trophy in three straight seasons. The public believes they’ll do just that as 11.3% of all tickets at BetMGM over the summer picked them to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. Not only that, but an insane 20.9% of the money backed them to win the Super Bowl, which was a full point more than the two next-closest teams combined.
Meanwhile, the Ravens have the third-best odds to win it all at +1100. They also had the third-most tickets at BetMGM (6.2%) and fourth-most money (5.8%) when teams reported to training camp.
