Seahawks vs. Patriots NFL Week 2 Preview, Picks
By Matt Trebby
If you had to guess which team in this matchup finished Week 1 ranked first in Defensive DVOA, you’d probably guess the Patriots coming off their upset win over the Bengals. Cincinnati scored just 10 minutes, and New England won as an eight-point underdog. New England ranks 11th after one week, though.
It's actually the Seahawks who are first in Defensive DVOA. Seattle held Bo Nix to just 3.3 yards per attempt on 42 passes thrown, and Broncos running backs ran for 3.2 yards per carry on 20 attempts. In terms of efficiency, the Seahawks shut down Denver.
Offensively, the Seahawks did enough to get the job done in Week 1. Geno Smith averaged 6.8 yards per attempt and threw for 171 yards, but Seattle ran the ball 33 times for 146 yards (4.4 yards per attempt) en route to wearing down the Broncos defense.
Speaking of wearing down the opposing defense, let’s turn to the Patriots offense.
Jacoby Brissett threw for only 121 yards and didn’t turn the ball over, which was his main job on the road. New England won the game behind 170 rushing yards on 39 attempts. Rhamondre Stevenson led the way with 120 yards on the ground and a touchdown.
Best Bet for Seahawks vs. Patriots
By PJ Walsh
The Seahawks vs. Patriots total opened at 40.5 on Sunday night and the under has attracted a steady dose of smart money ever since.
Specifically, Action PRO's NFL money percentages are reporting that this under has landed 45% of the dollars wagered on the total, but on just 11% of the tickets.
This is a clear indicator that biggest bets are falling on the under thus far, which seems to be confirmed considering oddsmakers have knocked this line down to a consensus of 38.5 as of the time of writing.
Pick: Under 38.5
