  • Gladys Knight sang the National Anthem before Super Bowl 53 kicked off between the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams.
  • For all of you who bet on Knight's over/under, we timed her rendition and put the results below.

You know it's the Super Bowl when millions of people were standing around their television and timing the National Anthem, sung by "The Empress of Soul" Gladys Knight.

As the popularity of the Super Bowl as a spectacle has grown, so have the prop bets. Along with betting on the coin toss and the color of the Gatorade that gets dumped on the winning coach, gambling on the National Anthem has become one of the most popular novelty bets for the Big Game.

The over/under for the length of "The Star Spangled Banner" was set at various numbers around the market, but for the majority of the week, the over/under was posted at 110 seconds.

We timed the anthem at 2:01 initially, but controversy ensued after Knight was found to have said "brave" twice. Per the rules at most books, the timing stops after the end of the first brave. One book's official time was 1:49, meaning most unders cashed. But a different book paid out the over 1:50.

So, long story short, the results were very close to the posted line and you should check your individual book to see how it graded the prop.

Congratulations to all the bettors out there who made a few extra bucks thanks to Gladys' wonderful performance.
