Patrick Mahomes may be the best player to take the field in Super Bowl 57 between the Chiefs and Eagles, but he isn’t without his deficiencies. For one, he can be careless with the ball at times, and that’s something Action Network NFL betting expert Gilles Gallant is honing in on.
As a correlated play, Gallant also likes the chances of Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson recording an interception of his own.
Read on below for analysis and betting picks for interception player props for Mahomes and Gardner-Johnson.
Chiefs vs Eagles Player Props
Patrick Mahomes
To Throw Interception (-105; BetMGM)
Mahomes’ turnover troubles started to pick up at the beginning of the 2021 season.
He’s thrown 25 interceptions in 39 games (postseason included) – notably, he has four of them in two career Super Bowl appearances (two in each game). In that same stretch, the Chiefs have lost nine games and Mahomes has thrown a pick in seven of them.
The Eagles were third in the NFL in interceptions (17) and were first in sacks. They’ve forced an interception in 12-of-20 games this season (58%). Of course, more pressure forces quicker quarterback decisions that increase turnover probability.
If you believe the Eagles will win the Super Bowl, you might as well bet on a Mahomes INT because when the Chiefs lose, turnovers are typically involved.
C.J. Gardner-Johnson
To Record Interception (+825; bet365)
Gardner-Johnson led the Eagles with six interceptions, which accounted for 35% of the team’s output.
Eight of the 12 interceptions Mahomes has thrown this season were thrown to safeties. In 2021, it was 6-of-13.
As for the Eagles defense as a whole, they’ve forced one in 12-of-20 games (58%). And as I mentioned above, in 7-of-9 games the Chiefs have lost since the start of the 2021 season, Mahomes threw an interception. In those games, he threw 11 interceptions overall – five to safeties.
Given this play is a bit of a long shot, I only have 0.5 units on this bet.
