Spread
This bet is not about Tommy DeVito. He's not the answer to the Giants' problems.
Instead, I'm primarily betting on New York's defense getting to Baker Mayfield and putting him under pressure.
Moneyline
I'm not betting the Giants moneyline. I'll happily take the points instead and bet on it being a tight game.
Over/Under
My projection for this game's total is 40, but I don't see enough of an edge to bet either side.
My Pick: Giants +6
Buccaneers vs. Giants NFL Week 12 Preview
Tommy DeVito is terrible. I’m not going to sit here and try to sell you on him.
I think this is going to be a low-scoring game. It features two teams that play at a slow pace, playing outdoors in potentially windy conditions.
This pick is less about DeVito and more about the Giants’ defensive matchup against the Buccaneers offense and Baker Mayfield, who we like to bet against when he’s going to be under pressure. Specifically, we like to fade Mayfield against teams that don’t have to blitz to get pressure on him.
The Giants fit that mold — it’s one of their key strengths.
New York will be boosted by Tristan Wirfs’ injury. The Buccaneers left tackle’s status is up in the air, and this would be a difficult matchup for him to return to. Ideally, for this bet, he’s out.
Kayvon Thibodeaux should be back this week for the Giants, which only enhances their front seven. I can see New York putting Mayfield under pressure and forcing him into multiple mistakes.
According to our NFL Luck Rankings, the Giants are the unluckiest team in the league. New York has five one-possession losses this season — six if you include the loss to the Bengals that saw Cincinnati run for a touchdown in the dying moments of the game.
The Buccanneers, meanwhile, were outgained by almost 300 yards in their win over the Lions, and they beat the Eagles early this season when A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith were both out. Tampa Bay also faced Spencer Rattler and faced Jayden Daniels in his NFL debut.
When you dig into DeVito’s numbers, they’re actually a little better on deep balls than Daniel Jones. Maybe this is a game where Malik Nabers is more involved.
I’m not worried about motivation for the Giants either. The players aren’t tanking; they’re professionals who have jobs to do and are playing for their paychecks.
The owner might’ve helped make the call to bench Jones, but the players aren’t going to quit.
My Pick: Giants +6
