The 2024-25 NFL season concluded with the Philadelphia Eagles dominating the Kansas City Chiefs in Superbowl LIX. Nick Sirriani’s Eagles thumped the defending champions, 40-22, on the back of a superior showing by Jalen Hurts, who took home the Super Bowl MVP.

Hurts completed 17 passes from 22, for 221 yards, two touchdowns, and rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown. While the Alabama product’s offensive numbers were stupendous, the Eagles’ pass rush and defensive work also was key in winning the franchise’s second Super Bowl. Their strong work prevented Patrick Mahomes and co. from scoring until the third quarter, and the Chiefs QB was sacked six times.

Two members of that defensive unit made the news this past weekend as Milton Williams and Jalyx Hunt were handed fines for different infractions. Williams was slapped with a $14,069 fine for celebrating a turnover by dunking the football over the crossbar. His teammate Hunt was fined $5,690 for doing a “bow-and-arrow” celebration after sacking Mahomes — an amount that fans have volunteered to pay but Hunt has requested to be donated to Barbers Who Care Inc.

In light of these fines, we conducted a study to determine the most fined teams in the 2024-25 NFL season. We sourced the data via Spotrac and calculated the total amount of fines that teams have been made to pay by the NFL for the 2024 regular season and postseason.

The Most Fined Teams in 2024-25

The 32 NFL franchises were collectively fined over $12 million for 553 infractions in the regular and postseason for the 2024-25. Of those 32 franchises, the Houston Texans were the most fined, with a bill of over $3 million. The Texans were the only team to have racked up a fine amount of over a million dollars.

The Texans’ fine bill is approximately one-fourth of the league total and the major part of it is because of the $2 million that Denico Autry had to pay for his PED violation, which also resulted in a six-game suspension.

The Los Angeles Chargers were the second most fined with a total of $903,653 paid. They are followed by the Steelers and the Cardinals (both having paid over $700k). The Lions and the 49ers round up the top 10, paying $444,007 and $418,655 respectively.

Players Who Paid the Most

In terms of dollar value of the fines paid, Autry leads the way with his six-game suspension and $2 million fine for violating the league’s PED policy.

Second on the list is Chargers safety Derwin James who was fined $708,333 and suspended for one game for repeated violations of safety rules in a Week 3 matchup against the Steelers.

Alaric Jackson of the LA Rams is third. He was suspended for two games without pay, amounting to $543,333 for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

Cameron Sutton ($537,766) and Zay Jones ($491,667) round up the top five. Both were fined and suspended for personal conduct violations, with the former missing eight games and the latter missing five.

Methodology

We compiled data for this project from spotrac.com. That data was further broken down into:

  • Number of fines
  • Total amount fined
  • Fines per player
  • Fines per position
  • Suspensions and time served

These data points were used to create tables.
