The 2024 Tennessee Titans have found themselves in historically grim territory this NFL season.
With a dismal 1-9 record against the spread (ATS) through 11 weeks, they hold the league’s worst mark this year. And it's one of the five worst ATS starts in the Super Bowl era.
- The 2007 Baltimore Ravens and the 1991 Cincinnati Bengals are the only teams since 1990 that started 1-9 ATS or worse in the first 11 weeks of the season.
- Both the 1984 and 1972 Houston Oilers share the unenviable distinction of starting 1-10 ATS through 11 weeks.
The lone cover for Tennessee came back in September, when they managed to beat Tyler Huntley and the Miami Dolphins. They beat the Patriots in overtime 20-17 as a 3.5-point favorite earlier this month, failing to cover. Beyond that, bettors backing the Titans have seen little but frustration.
The Titans have been a bit unfortunate at times, particularly in Week 1, when they led the Bears 17-0 as a 4-point underdog. Underdogs of at least four points to lead by 17+ at any point in the game were 66-1-1 ATS since 2019 before that.
Much of Tennessee’s struggles can be traced to uneven quarterback play. Mason Rudolph, who started three games, failed to cover in any of them, posting an 0-3 ATS record, though he did play a good chunk of that game against the Dolphins. Meanwhile, rookie Will Levis, despite flashes of potential, has fared little better.
The Titans’ current ATS woes evoke memories of the 2007 Ravens, a team that similarly fell short of expectations and failed to reward bettors. That year, Baltimore ended the season 5-11 outright and 3-13 ATS, cementing their place in NFL betting infamy.
