The Houston Texans (1-4-1) host the Tennessee Titans (4-2), with oddsmakers projecting a pick’em. Brandin Cooks (wrist) has been in the news lately with the trade deadline looming, and QB Davis Mills will be without his second most targeted weapon, Nico Collins (groin), for the first time this season.
Next man up is Phillip Dorsett II, who, in Week 7, logged a 54% snap share while splitting time with Chris Moore for the third receiver spot.
Head coach Lovie Smith has been raving and talking highly about the wideout, stating, “[Dorsett] made some big plays in our last game, and that warrants more time and targets.” Smith also added that “it was good to see him make a few good plays. We need him."
Dorsett’s career has not been flashy. He last scored a touchdown with the Patriots in 2019, but that could change with ample opportunity to fill in for Collins.
So far this season, the Titans have an above average defensive DVOA against the run (No. 10) while allowing an average of 200.17 yards to opposing wide receivers, which is the third most in the league. They have been doing a solid job containing opposing alpha receivers, but what jumps off the page is that they rank 31st in opposing defense DVOA against No. 2 receivers.
Opportunity knocks, and this could not have been a better time for Dorsett to answer. With a more significant role in the offense against a pass-friendly team, I confidently project him to smash his receiving yard prop.
