It is safe to assume that there is going to be a lot of action and points scored tonight.
Travis Kelce player props are one of the most popular bets for tonight's game. According to John Ewing of BetMGM, “97% of bets are on the OVER” for his 76.5 receiving yard lines.”
While I understand Kelce is the strongest weapon to Mahomes, I do not think he is in the strongest matchup in Week 2 and will look to fade him.
Last season’s Week 15 meeting vs. the Chargers saw Kelce go for 13 catches and 191 yards, which is impressive on paper but misleading for two reasons. The obvious reason was that this game went into overtime, during which Kelce allocated 61 receiving yards. The second reason was that he faced a not-so-healthy Derwin James.
James was limited in practice and questionable to play coming into the matchup but ended up playing. He was blanketing Kelce with coverage and it proved to be working. In the 22 snaps when he was on the field, Kelce only had one catch for 14 yards. James then re-aggravated his hamstring in the second half and did not return. With James off the field in 33 snaps, Kelce took advantage by racking up 177 yards and two touchdowns, per Pro Football Focus.
The highest-paid safety in NFL history now appears to be fully recovered and is looking to wreak havoc on opposing offenses. The Chargers defense in general should already game plan on scheming against the Chiefs' biggest weapon in Kelce, and it should be an easier time without Tyreek Hill in the picture.
I can confidently see Kelce underwhelming bettors in a prime spot and going under 77 yards tonight.
